Quality enchants (Fine, Superb, etc.) improve the base stats of an item, like damage or armor rating. Property enchants add special effects, like bonus fire damage or attribute boosts. They are separate processes with different costs. This calculator is only for Quality upgrades.

6. Does my character’s Mechanics or Survival skill affect enchanting cost?

No. Character skills do not reduce the copper or material cost of enchanting. A high Mechanics skill is required to perform higher-level enchants, but it doesn’t make them cheaper.

7. Can I skip a quality tier, like going from Fine directly to Superb?

No. The upgrade path is strictly sequential. To get to Superb, an item must first be Fine, then Exceptional. Our dust calculator chart for PoE1 correctly calculates this cumulative cost.

8. Is this calculator for Pillars of Eternity 1 or 2?

This calculator is specifically for the first game, *Pillars of Eternity* (PoE1), including its expansions. The enchanting system and costs are different in the sequel, *Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire*.
